8 Simple Ways to Quit Drinking Alcohol

1. Write the reasons why you want to quit drinking alcohol. Why do you want to give up the habit? There are many reasons why, I know. You may want to improve your health, sleep better, or get along better with family or friends. Make a list of reasons why you want to get rid of the habit. There are personal reasons and there are social reasons. You may want to list all of those as it will be extremely helpful in regards to motivation and determining what’s next.

2. Don’t give up. Alcoholics don’t make it to success because they easily give up on their first try. Fight against alcohol addiction is a never ending course. We should all realize that in order to quit drinking, we must be patient enough in acquiring our goal.

3. Ignore all the things related to alcohol withdrawal symptoms. When I say “ignore” I mean that you don’t want to focus on those things. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms are dangerous and can put your health at risks. You should seek medical help if needed. But don’t focus on the few negative effects of quitting drinking such as alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Concentrate on the good side. Although there are some sacrifices involve in giving up the habit, we should always remember that sobriety is what matters most.

4. Take it one day at a time. Never set a plan if you know you can’t achieve it. It is better to take little steps firsts before leaping high. In this situation, you can gradually obtain the best results in beating alcoholism. You will find your self getting out of alcohol addiction and it will be beneficial to you and to your family. Good luck on your recovery.

5. Don’t hesitate to ask your family to support you in achieving your plans. Never underestimate the moral support they can provide as these can be the needed motivations in quitting alcohol. There are instances that help and assistance coming from people who you love and care is enough to beat alcohol cravings. These motivations are important to push your limits and continue to pursue your goals. These are also helpful in terms of kicking the habit without help from outside world.

6. Ask advice from alcoholism experts before trying any thing. They can give you some advice when it comes to your physical and emotional tolerance. It is important to know whether you can tolerate or not the symptoms you may experience when withdrawing from alcohol. The diagnosis will allow you to understand if you are ready to give up the addictive substance.

7. Don’t feel sad. Remember that happiness is a choice. If you are having troubles and hard times in quitting drinking, focusing on happiness will help you to be positive, avoiding depression will triggers cravings to get back to drinking.

8. Make your self busy all the time. You can do this by learning to appreciate other things aside from drinking. Try to engage in physical activities such as playing basketball. This will not only make you busy but will allow you to be physically fit that you need in order to stand for withdrawal symptoms and physical effects of alcohol addiction.
